Site Manager Jamie Scott welcomed Cleethorpes MP Martin Vickers to Cristal’s Stallingborough facility to meet staff and tour the site. The Stallingborough plant has been a mainstay of the community for over 60 years and employs over 400 employees, many from the surrounding area.
While at the site Martin spoke with graduates and apprentices who are part of Cristal’s engineering training programmes.
Martin learned that over the last decade Cristal has employed over 50 local apprentices with many developing into full-time Stallingborough employees.
Following the visit Martin said, “It has been extremely interesting to see a business with such a long-term investment bear fruit and I hope to see many more of the enthusiastic young apprentices make the transition to full-time employment in the future. This is exactly the sort of commitment I welcome from businesses in the area.”
Martin went on to say, “The nation is in desperate need of chemical engineers but with Cristal’s work with Teach First, the Grimsby Institute and a range of local schools every effort is made to highlight the benefits of a career in the chemicals industry and the skills that youngsters will require to make it happen. It’s great to see Cleethorpes will be a hot bed of talent the UK needs.”
Jamie Scott, Site Director, commented, “Here at Cristal we are really proud of our apprenticeship and graduate programmes, coupled with our ongoing partnership with the University of Hull to help deliver an undergraduate degree in chemical engineering – the first in the region for nearly thirty years. I hope these measures highlight just how serious we are about investing in the future. It was privilege to welcome Mr Vickers MP to the site and we look forward to welcoming him back in the future.”
