CLEETHORPES MP Martin Vickers has attacked plans by Labour and the Liberal Democrats to block a bill that will guarantee an in-out referendum on the European Union.
Labour and Liberal Democrat whips in the Commons and Lords met to agree a strategy to block the Tory-backed bill entrenching an in-out referendum on the European Union in 2017.
A private member’s bill tabled by the Tory MP James Wharton, with the enthusiastic backing of Conservative ministers, has passed through the Commons and is due to have its second reading in the Lords on Friday.
Now Mr Vickers has described plans to block the bill as “outrageous.”
The Conservative MP said: “Whatever your view on membership of the EU it is only right that all of the British people should have a say through a referendum on Britain’s continuing membership.
“It’s outrageous that both the Labour and LibDem parties are working together to defeat this Bill when it reaches the House of Lords.
