Whilst delivering my New Year leaflet in Croft Baker this morning, I was very disappointed to see the amount of litter that is currently flooding the streets thanks to the Labour-led Council's ridiculous recycling policy.
The decision to collect general waste and recycling on alternate weeks is evidently not working. Many residents from across North East Lincolnshire have noticed an increase in the amount of litter on the streets and whilst it is usually not as unsightly as can be seen in the picture below, any extra litter is inexcusable.
Of course, recycling is important and the Environment Secretary, Michael Gove, is pursuing policies in Government to tackle unnecessary waste - particularly that caused by single-use plastics which are particularly harmful to the environment. However, the Labour-led Council is not applying common sense to its recycling policy in North East Lincolnshire. Clearly an urgent re-think is necessary.
As soon as I saw this particular example of litter, I brought it to the attention of the relevant local councillor who agreed that it was a disgrace and that he would take steps to resolve the problem. If you encounter any similar scenes, please do consider notifying your ward councillor who will be best placed to deal with the situation.
