Martin has joined an All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) which calls for enhanced teacher training on Paediatric Acute-onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome (PANS) and Paediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal Infections (PANDAS).
These conditions, which often arise abruptly following common infections, are increasingly recognised as significant contributors to acute-onset special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) in children and young people.
The APPG, which is being chaired by Wendy Chamberlain MP, has recently written to the Secretary of State for Education, Bridget Phillipson MP, to call for the inclusion of PANS and PANDAS within the Department for Education’s SEND & Alternative Provision Change Programme.
Martin looks forward to continuing to work with the APPG on this important issue.
