Manish and Anjana experienced firsthand the work that MPs do representing their constituents in Parliament. Working closely with office staff over the week, they were involved in a wide range of activities, including researching complex parliamentary matters, debating political topics, and responding to constituent casework.
The highlight of the week was attending Prime Minister’s Question Time, which Manish and Anjana particularly enjoyed. Both MPs and their staff were very grateful for the interns’ help. Martin adds that ‘It has been a pleasure to host two bright and diligent young people, and I hope to provide the opportunity for further internships in the future’.
The Speakers’ Parliamentary Placement Scheme, administered by the Social Mobility Foundation, gives people from diverse backgrounds the opportunity to get a taste of working in politics. Applications can be made on the Social Mobility Foundation’s website: www.socialmobility.org.uk.
