Martin Recently visited the Sainsbury's Local Store in Cleethorpes and chatted to Hazel Nixon, Manager, about the good work they are doing locally.
Thanks to the support of customers and colleagues in Cleethorpes, Sainsbury's have donated £225423.00 worth of Active Kids equipment and experiences to organisations in the Local Education Authority. They launched Active Kids in 2005 to inspire children to be more active. Their customers are given vouchers which can be donated to nurseries, schools, Scout and Guide groups as well as other youth sport groups. Since 2005, they have donated over £136 million worth of equipment and experiences to nearly 52,000 organisations across the UK.
Following their sponsorship of the 2012 Paralympic Games, they also launched their 'Active Kids for All' scheme, supporting teachers and school staff to develop the skills and confidence to deliver inclusive PE lessons. To date, over 800 teachers have received the training, benefitting more than 19,000 young people who have disabilities or special educational needs.
