Martin Fights to Save Scartho Baths
Martin Vickers organised a debate in Parliament to urge North East Lincolnshire Council to reconsider its controversial plans to close Scartho Swimming Pool.
Martin felt that the consultation process conducted by the Council had reached “a new low”, with the wording of some questions being “irresponsible in the extreme”.
Furthermore, Martin offered to work with the council to find an alternative solution, suggesting that “there might be pots of money available for which the council can bid for” in light of Olympic heritage funding.
Martin went on to say that “we all accept that we are living through particularly difficult financial times and that the authority must consider whether an £8 million new build is better than spending £2 million or £3 million on a refurbishment, particularly when most local people believe that they would be getting a better facility.”
