David Cameron has written to Cleethorpes MP, Martin Vickers, following Prime Minister's Questions last Wednesday about a direct rail service to London.
During Prime Minister's Questions, Martin raised the issue of a direct rail service from Cleethorpes to London. Asking David Cameron about the Office of Rail and Road's decision on Alliance Rail's application for such a service, Martin said:
"Alliance Rail has submitted an application to the rail regulator, and it has been with the regulator for more than a year. Will my right hon. Friend do all he can to ensure that an early decision is made?"
Following this question, the Prime Minister has now written to Martin, clarifying that the Office of Rail and Road is expected to make a decision on the proposal, and other proposals for services along the East Coast route, over the summer.
The Prime Minister said:
"You asked specifically about the proposal from Alliance Rail to provide a direct open access service between London and Cleethorpes. This is currently with the Office of Rail and Road (ORR) for decision, alongside a number of other applications from Alliance and other operators to run services on the East Coast route.
I know the ORR are keen to finalise decisions on the applications, and I understand that they currently hope to do so over the summer."
