Martin Vickers MP celebrates contribution of the timber industries at Parliamentary event
Martin joined representatives from the timber industries to celebrate the contribution they make across the UK at an event in the House of Commons on Wednesday 7th February.
The timber industries contribute over £10 billion per year to the UK economy and are in the top 50% of manufacturing industries in the UK. The sector employs around 200,000 people across the UK, in construction, manufacturing and distribution. These are skilled local jobs across a range of disciplines in every single constituency in the country.
Guests at Wednesday’s reception included representatives from across those industries.
Martin said:
“I was pleased to have the opportunity to show my support for the timber industries on Wednesday. The timber industries play an important role in providing jobs in Cleethorpes, as well as facilitating demand across the country for sustainable, managed forests and helping to solve the housing crisis through providing affordable, environmentally friendly timber-framed homes.”
David Hopkins, Director of the Confederation of Timber Industries said:
“Thank you to Martin for joining us on Wednesday. The timber industry is thriving, in Cleethorpes and across the country, and we want our sector to continue to grow and support the creation of even more jobs. To make that happen we need the support of Government, which is why we are grateful to Martin for helping us to highlight the work of our industry in Parliament.
