Kimberly-Clark plans to stop selling its Huggies nappies in much of Western and Central Europe as part of a plan to leave low-profit businesses in that region.
Kimberly-Clark, the maker of Kleenex tissues, said it would remain in the nappies business in Italy. The company plans to cut 1,300 to 1,500 jobs, which will mean closing or selling five manufacturing plants including the one situated at Barton Upon Humber
"We've been in the European nappy market for more than 20 years and we've made a number of attempts to find a winning business model there," Chairman and Chief Executive Thomas Falk has said, "We've concluded that we can create more shareholder value by getting out of this business rather than by continuing to try to turn it around."
Martin visited the Barton factory with Liz Redfern, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, to meet with senior executives of the company to discuss ways to help staff navigate an uncertain future and provide help and assistance in finding alternate employment or re training opportunities.
