I was delighted to visit Beacon Academy recently to see for myself the result of the huge improvements that have been made over the last few years.
It was fantastic to hear from Headteacher Jason Thurley that this September there will be over 500 students attending the academy, with a waiting list for Year 7 entry give the incredible demand they now face. This has allowed the academy to employ more specialist staff and offer a greatly enhanced curriculum which is wonderful news for the students.
Students impressed upon me the scale of the changes that have been made including more teachers, more course options and the high quality refurbishment that has taken place. I had the opportunity to visit various parts of the academy and was highly impressed by the physical changes that continue to be made to the site.
It has been quite a journey for the academy over the past four years. The school was in a real trough but the changes that have been achieved have been significant and clearly welcomed by the community. The fact Beacon was graded 'good' by Ofsted weeks before the pandemic struck and is now over-subscribed tells its own story.
Congratulations to all involved!
